For several years, I have been studying the relationship of inflammation and hemostasis in autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), in particular the role of leukocytes and platelets in inflammation and the pathways involved in the increase of cardiovascular risk observed in patients afflicted with autoimmune diseases.

In our laboratories, we are investigating the role of a novel pro-inflammatory axis comprised of thrombospondin-1 (TSP1), transforming growth factor (TGF) beta and connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) in rheumatoid arthritis and the contribution provided by platelets, leukocytes and synoviocytes for the axis to be assembled.
