Research Interests:

The Dengue virus (DV) pathogenesis remains a problem especially since there are no molecular markers to predict the early signs of the disease. The virus is known to promote vascular permeability, cerebral edema leading to Dengue hemorrhagic fever or Dengue shock syndrome. Among the viral proteins, Dengue virus NS1- glycoprotein secreted and accumulated in patients sera capture the attention of researchers due to its ability to be detected and measured. The DV-NS1 has capability to alter the expression of various cytokine, chemokine and inflammatory protein in endothelial cells. The mechanism used by DV-NS1 to cause vascular damage remains unclear. Our gene array analysis followed by functional assay led to the conclusion that DV-NS1 contributes significantly towards the severity of disease. My research involves identifying new biomarkers for DV pathogenesis as well as mechanism involve in severity of the disease. This could serve towards development of more effective therapeutic approach against DV.
