ADVANCED CORE APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED UNTIL JUNE 10TH

advanced core in medical sciences (acms) program

The Advanced Core in Medical Sciences (ACMS) Program is for students who have completed the pre-medical requirements and are in need of some additional classroom work and/or Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) preparation. For students who are close to attaining the academic standards required of the successful application to medical school, these programs often provide the final bridge to achieving their goals. Students may be offered the opportunity to obtain a Masters Degree in Biomedical Science while preparing for the next stages of their career. The program also includes educational and extra-curricular activities at the School of Medicine, including an MCAT preparation course and a non-credit-granting seminar series providing mentoring opportunities and an introduction to review of the medical scientific literature.

Unique components of the program are:

  • Formal MCAT preparation
  • Structured mentoring opportunities with TUSM faculty
  • Opportunity for conditional acceptance into Temple University School of Medicine
  • Opportunity to advance to the TUSM Masters Degree in Biomedical Science Program

Overview of the Program

  1. Students will enter a 10 month, 20 semester hour non-degree-granting program.
  2. Students will be advised by the Director of the Postbaccalaureate Program, as well as faculty from the disciplines participating in the program.
  3. The students will have opportunities to include clinical mentoring and an introduction to research at the School of Medicine.
  4. The students will take an MCAT preparation course in the spring semester of the program.
  5. Students who have maintained a 3.5 GPA and have achieved MCAT scores of at least 30, no section less than 8, will be granted special admission status to the School of Medicine.
  6. Upon completion of the two semester program, students not directly entering the MD degree program may enter the TUSM MS Program in the Biomedical Sciences if their science GPA has been at least 3.0.
