Post Baccalaureate program

advanced core in medical sciences (acms) program

This highly selective program offers graduate level science courses taught by our medical school faculty to candidates who are interested in strengthening their academic record. Successful applicants have a B or higher average in their undergraduate work and have demonstrated abilities in standardized test taking, e.g. DATs, MCATs, SATs, GREs, etc.

 

The program also includes educational and extra-curricular activities at the School of Medicine and the Kornberg School of Dentistry, including MCAT/DAT preparation, shadowing opportunities, Ethics in Medicine lecture series, and a seminar series with review of the medical scientific literature.

Unique components of the program are:

 
  • Formal MCAT/DAT preparation
  • Structured clinical mentoring opportunities with TUSM and TUSD faculty
  • A seminar series providing an introduction to review of the medical scientific literature
  • The unique opportunity to matriculate immediately into Temple University School of Medicine or
  • The unique opportunity to matriculate immediately into Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry

 

Overview of the ACMS Program

 

The ACMS Program is a 10-month, 22-semester hour non-degree-granting program with specialized advising by the Director of the Post Baccalaureate Program, as well as the medical school faculty from the disciplines participating in the program.

 

Students will enroll in graduate courses in the School of Medicine.

  • In the fall and spring semesters, the students will complete a rigorous, structured curriculum, consisting of Principles of Physiology, Fundamentals of Bichemistry, Molecular Basis of Microbiology & Immunology, Medical Pharmacology and Medical Anatomy.
  • Opportunities for clinical schadowing during Fall & Spring
  • During the spring semester, a seminar series that includes an introduction to the review of the medical literature.
  • MCAT preparation course spanning the fall and spring semesters of the program.
  • DAT preparation course in the Spring
  • Following successful completion of the course work, the students will take the MCAT/DAT examination.
  • Students who have maintained a 3.5 GPA and have achieved MCAT scores of at least 30, no section less than 8, will be granted immediate admission into the School of Medicine.
  • Students who have maintained a 3.3 GPA and obtain minimum Academic Average and Total Science Scores of 18 with a score of no less than 16 in any section of the DAT, will be granted immediate admission into the Kornberg School of Dentistry.
