COMPREHENSIVE NEUROAIDS CENTER (cnac)
International HIV Medicine and Research Core
Brian Wigdahl, PhD, Leader
Jeffrey Jacobson, MD, Co-Leader
The International HIV Medicine and Research Core facilitates the development, characterization, and completion of international translational medicine projects developed by NeuroAIDS investigators. This research focuses on molecular mechanisms, diagnosis, and treatment of commonly encountered major and minor neurocognitive disorders in differing subtypes of HIV-1 infection of the brain. Genotypic differences between subtype B and C isolates as well as subtype C isolates from different continents have indicated that variations in susceptibility, development of drug resistance, and complications due to opportunistic infections may occur.
This core provides assistance with the generation of HIV-1 subtype infected patient cohort samples consisting of molecular reagents such as DNA, RNA, and proteins. Also, international translational information including clinical data and neurobehavioral assessments will be collected and stored in an electronic NeuroAIDS database.
