Hospitals
Fox Chase Cancer Center is the region's only hospital devoted entirely to cancer treatment, research and prevention. The 100-bed hospital, located in Philadelphia, is among the top cancer centers in the nation. Fox Chase Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit institution formed in 1974 by the union of American Oncologic Hospital (one the the nation's first cancer hospitals, established in 1904) and the Institute for Cancer Research (founded in 1927). Fox Chase was also among the first institutions to be designated a National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center in 1974. The Urology resident experiences the full breadth of oncology in this referral center. Working within a mentorship-model under five urologic oncologists, residents follow patients from workup, through the operation and hospital admission, to outpatient follow-up.
