A Message from the Chief Residents

Psychiatry Chief Residents

Thank you for taking the time to look at the Temple psychiatry residency program.

At Temple, you will find dedicated faculty and residents who have a passion for the practice of psychiatry. The breadth of clinical experience at Temple is extensive, and we are certain that you will be well-prepared for a rewarding career. A major strength of our program is the quality of supervision we receive. Supervision is provided at all levels of training, so while your autonomy in patient care increases throughout the program, you are never left “out in the cold” on challenging cases, and you will always be guided to explore deeper nuances in understanding your patients.

Scholarly pursuits are actively encouraged and supported by faculty members, and our residents often present at regional, national, and international professional meetings. Our faculty is dedicated to the teaching, mentoring, and supervision of all of our residents, and strives to produce psychiatrists who are not only capable, but exemplary. In addition to our full-time faculty, we also have a number of adjunct faculty members and alumni who serve as didactic instructors and individual supervisors for our residents. This allows the resident to draw from a deep pool of expertise in a wide range of subspecialties.

Resident feedback is valued in the program. One vehicle through which resident voices are heard is our biannual retreat. Through the retreat we provide anonymous feedback about the program with the goal of guiding continuous improvement. Almost as important (if not more so!)is the night before the retreat. Traditionally, this is a night of resident socialization and bonding. Along with the monthly “Resident Meeting – Fun Version” outings to celebrate resident birthdays, we make sure to have plenty of social time to get to know each other outside of work.
