Residency Program

Temple University Hospital, the major clinical resource of the School of Medicine, effectively and sensitively provides a first-class educational experience for its house staff and top quality health care for its patients. The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences plays a significant and vital role in meeting these broad institutional objectives.

Greatly enhancing the educational value of the training is the volume of in-patient admissions. There are more than 3,000 gynecological surgical cases and over 3,700 deliveries annually; the major portion of the care for this patient population is the direct responsibility of the residents with faculty supervision. Such a caseload provides the resident with the broadest experience in OB/GYN/RS care. The majority of obstetrical and a significant number of gynecological patients seen at Temple University Hospital are high risk. Additionally, an equal number of gynecological and obstetrical cases are seen at the two affiliate community hospitals through which each resident rotates for a total of 30 weeks during the four-year program.

The house staff benefits not only from the volume and variety found in Temple's OB/GYN/RS in-patient population but also from the outpatient setting where annual visits surpass 40,000. Here, too, the house staff is an integral part of the health care team, which includes paraprofessionals and full-time faculty.
