department of MedicineSection of rheumatology
Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Rheumatology Section
The Section of Rheumatology is undergoing major expansion. This will enhance our mission of providing advanced patient care, outstanding teaching and cutting edge research.
The Rheumatology Clinic moved in late 2007 to the newly renovated Medical Office Building. In this facility, we provide outstanding care in collaboration with other subspecialties, notably our nephrology colleagues who staff a jointly run weekly Lupus Clinic. Our commitment to the care of osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease is evidenced by a weekly Osteoporosis Clinic, an onsite DEXA scan facility, and our proximity to the Section of Endocrinology.
We have established an onsite Infusion Center to facilitate and make more convenient the administration of biological and other intravenous therapy and for the benefit of clinical research.
The Section of Rheumatology is committed to education and welcomes students to its popular elective. Residents regularly rotate through our service. We have an active program of clinical conferences, a weekly Grand Rounds, and weekly didactic teaching. Fellows rotate through the Pediatric Rheumatology Section at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children and the Orthopaedic Clinic.
The Section was assigned 4,600 square feet of laboratory space in 2008 for its program of research in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. We anticipate moving to the state of the-art New Medical School Building when it is completed in 2009.
