Internal Medicine Residency Program

The Interview Experience

We hope that your Temple experience is an excellent one that will allow you to see the myriad aspects of the Internal Medicine Residency Program. In order to have the best possible time here, please note the following:

In Preparation

Maria Cruz

Ms. Maria Cruz is in charge of the administrative aspects of the interview day.  Please feel free to contact her as needed. If you are arriving from out of town and need a place to stay, Ms. Cruz can point you in the right direction.

The Night Before

Marathon Grill

If you would like to meet the residents in an informal setting, we encourage you to meet us for dinner the night before in Center City. Please let Ms. Cruz know if you will be able to attend so we can get an accurate head count. We will meet for dinner at 6:30 p.m. at the designated restaurant.  Dinners are held at restaurants in downtown Philadelphia.

Dinners are generally scheduled the night prior to your interview. The interview season can be very busy and we want you to get to know our residents better om an informal setting. If you can not make the interview dinner the night before, please contact Maria and she will arrange a different dinner for you to attend.

The Day Itself

The interview day begins at 8:30 a.m. in the new Medical Education and Research Building with breakfast and an introduction from our program director and/or chairman.

During the interview day, you will get a chance to learn about our program from the key faculty, chief residents and residents. You will have a tour of the facility and a chance to see where and how our teaching is done.

You will also have two interviews. In an innovative approach, Temple offers an "A" interview with a faculty member who has seen your portfolio and is familiar with your background and a "B" interview. During the “B” interview, you will be interviewed by one of our residents who are interested in getting to know you and who will not have reviewed your file. It is a casual time to get to know a future colleague. Please feel free to pose questions about the program during either the interview or on the tour. If you should happen to have questions after you get home, please send them along to Ms. Cruz and they will be forwarded to the appropriate person.

A continental breakfast and buffet lunch will be provided for you. These are good times to schmooze with our current residents and learn even more about us. Your day will end by 2:30 p.m.

Coming Back

We want you to be sure that Temple is the best choice for you so we invite anyone interested to return for a second visit. We would be very happy to see you again and answer any remaining questions you might have. To set this up, please contact

Ms. Cruz, and she will arrange to have a team with whom you can link and have the opportunity to talk with key people in the program and attend daily rounds with the residents.  This will give you a feel for how your day at Temple will be.
