Residency Program Overview

 

The Department of Emergency Medicine at Temple University Hospital has a fully accredited residency program in Emergency Medicine. The EM1 - EM2 - EM3 Program enrolled its inaugural class in July 1997. Continued growth, development and improvement establishes Temple University Hospital Emergency Medicine residency as a top program. With a goal of developing leaders and outstanding clinicians in the specialty of emergency medicine, residents are taught to recognize, evaluate, and manage the full spectrum of undifferentiated patients presenting to the Emergency Department. Emphasis is on academic rigor and delivery of quality emergency care.

 

 

Why Temple University Hospital?

 

Temple University Hospital maintains a 105-year tradition of commitment to "hands-on" graduate training. A modern 746-bed facility serves a diverse inner-city population. Temple also serves as a referral center for the greater Delaware Valley, providing a wide array of tertiary care services. Temple University Hospital is the busiest level I regional trauma center in Philadelphia, and also claims the distinction of being one of the first and most active heart transplant centers in the United States. Recent additions include designation as a regional burn center and the opening of the Ambulatory Care Center which houses our new Emergency Department. The Emergency Medicine Program's primary clinical site is the Emergency Department of Temple University Hospital with a census of 65,000 that continues to grow.

 

 

Superior Training

 

With strong, established residency programs in almost every medical specialty, Temple has the broad support structure necessary for a superior Emergency Medicine Training Program. Community hospital rotations at three regional community hospitals, as well as pediatric rotations at the prestigious Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, supplement the Emergency Medicine resident's experience at the primary clinical site.
