Health Disparities Conference

Philadelphia should be the healthiest city in the nation with its abundance of academic medical centers; yet health disparities persist at levels that surpass national averages, particularly in North Philadelphia. A disproportionately high number of North Philadelphia residents suffer from preventable and treatable health conditions, and many battle chronic illnesses without health insurance. Seventy-six percent of Temple patients are underinsured or uninsured. To eliminate healthcare disparities, we must first understand them. This requires the active participation and partnership of patients and members of the community side-by-side with health care providers in designing, implementing and evaluating research, education and community outreach strategies to improve health outcomes for medically underserved and minority populations.

The Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities (CMHHD) is committed to increasing access to quality medical care and supporting the healthy development of vulnerable and underserved communities. If you are interested in learning more or in becoming a partner in these efforts, please contact the CMHHD.

Sincerely,
