Awards & Fellowship Opportunities

Medical Student Service Project Award/ Chapter Development Grant*

Annual grants of up to $2,000 are available to ΑΩA chapters for support of projects that establish or enhance academic excellence, represent service to the medical or general community, or increase ΑΩA's visibility in the institution. The National ΑΩA seeks to increase support of individual chapters and their community service programs. 


Student Research Fellowships*

Five Student Research Fellowship Awards have been established in order to encourage and support student research. Awards have grown in number and dollar amount since its establishment in 1982, and the board now allocates up to $225,000 annually for this project. Up to 50 fellowships may be awarded annually to students in their first, second, or third year (fourth years students not eligible).


Student Essay Awards*

The purpose of this award is to encourage medical students to address general topics in medicine and to enable Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society to recognize excellent and thoughtful student presentations in a tangible way.


The Pharos Poetry Competition*

Any student at a school with an active AΩA chapter may submit a poem to the contest. The winners will be published in The Pharos.


Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teacher Awards*

These awards are based on a national competition conducted annually through the offices of the deans of U.S. and Canadian medical schools, and are designed to recognize distinction in medical student teaching.
