Reunion Weekend 2008 Recap

Photography by Mark Stehle

The class reunion held on November 14 and 15, 2008 for classes in graduating years ending in 3 and 8 was a wonderful success. More than 350 alumni and guests attended, many traveling from great distances. The festivities began with a Friday evening welcome reception at the Westin-Philadelphia Hotel. On Saturday morning, alumni gathered on campus for an update by Dean Daly, a “then and now” program in which alumni and current medical students compared their TUSM experiences, a luncheon, and a campus tour featuring the School’s new building, now under construction, and the clinical simulation and patient skills centers.

With upscale cocktail receptions, class photographs, and a big-screen slideshow, the Saturday evening's alumni banquet at the Westin Hotel was a huge success. Dean John Daly, MD’73, was named Alumnus of the Year--as a surprise. Eugene Kern, MD’63, received the Alumni Achievement Award; and John Harding, MD’73, was named Honored Professor. The Alumni Service Award was given jointly to Daniel Nesi, MD’63, and Richard Scott, MD ’68. The Humanism in Medicine Award was given to twin brothers Vance Moss, MD’98, and Vince Moss, MD’98, for their heroic volunteer efforts in Afghanistan.

In addition, a check for $5.6 million was presented to the Dean, reflecting the five-year total of philanthropy to the school by the reunion classes collectively since their last reunion. This money supports the new medical school building, student scholarships, and other essential funds.

The reunion for TUSM graduates in class years ending in 4 and 9 is scheduled for October 31, 2009. Contact the alumni office for advance information.
