Abdullah M.S. Al-Osaimi, MD, FACP, FACG, AGAF, Named Chief of Hepatology and Medical Director of Liver Transplantation at Temple University Hospital

Abdullah M.S. Al-Osaimi, MD, FACP, FACG, AGAFAbdullah M.S. Al-Osaimi, MD, FACP, FACG, AGAF, has been appointed Medical Director of Liver Transplantation at Temple University Hospital, and Associate Professor of Medicine and Chief of Hepatology at Temple University School of Medicine, effective October 21, 2013.
Dr. Al-Osaimi was most recently Associate Professor of Medicine and Surgery, and Medical Director of Liver Transplantation at University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville, VA.

 

Dr. Al-Osaimi specializes in liver transplant, and the treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease; viral hepatitis; fulminant hepatic failure; hepatocellular carcinoma; liver cirrhosis; autoimmune liver disorders; cholestatic liver disorders; and drug-induced liver disorders.

Dr. Al-Osaimi's research interests include fatty liver disease, including novel techniques of assessing fibrosis with non-invasive tools like Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy; liver transplantation; viral hepatitis; hepatocellular carcinoma; and cholestatic liver disease.

 

"We are delighted to have someone as skilled and respected as Dr. Al-Osaimi join Temple," says Oleh Haluszka, MD, Professor of Medicine at Temple University School of Medicine, and Chief of the Section of Gastroenterology at Temple University Hospital. "Dr. Al-Osaimi is a nationally recognized physician leader and researcher. He will play a vital role in building Temple’s Hepatology Division and Liver Transplant Team, and in making Temple a health care destination for patients with a wide-range of liver disorders."

 

Dr. Al-Osaimi earned his Medical Bachelor and Bachelor of Surgery Degree from King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He completed an Internal Medicine Residency, and a Gastroenterology and Hepatology Fellowship at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Riyadh. Dr. Al-Osaimi went on to complete a Liver Transplantation Hepatology Fellowship at the University of Virginia Health System.

 

Frequently invited to present at international and national meetings, Dr. Al-Osaimi is the author of more than 190 peer-reviewed articles, abstracts and textbook chapters related to liver diseases. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Gastroenterology Association, as well a member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, the American Transplant Society, and the European Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. Dr. Al-Osaimi has served as a reviewer for nearly 20 national and international scientific journals and on editorial boards of several national and international scientific journals.
