Dr. Carson Schneck, Professor of Anatomy and Cell Biology, instructs students in the Gross Anatomy course. One of the first of its kind, Gross Anatomy at Temple is unique because there are no large group lectures; all material is presented in the gross laboratory and small group conferences. Known for our culture diversity, collaboration and innovation, Temple University School of Medicine was Pennsylvania's first coeducational medical school (founded Sept. 16, 1901). Temple University University Children's Medical Center, constructed in 1998, serves Philadelphia and the surrounding region. It is an institution that focuses on developing outreach and educational programs to address public health issues critical to the communities we serve.

Applying to Temple

Candidates interested in Temple University School of Medicine apply through the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS). Applications must be completed online at AMCAS.

The deadline for submitting an application to AMCAS is December 15, 2011. After an application is verified by AMCAS, it will be forwarded to Temple University School of Medicine. Once a verified application is received, all applicants are sent a link to complete the supplemental application online and submit a nonrefundable $75 application fee.

Applicants also are asked to have recommendations forwarded from their undergraduate premedical committee, a school compilation service, or two (2) individual science faculty. If you are submitting a compilation packet or individual letters, two (2) letters must be from Biology, Chemistry, or Physics professors with whom you completed course work. Students are welcome to submit additional letters to support their application. Applicants who have enrolled in masters or doctoral programs should have additional references submitted by faculty from such programs.

Temple University School of Medicine participates in the AMCAS Letters of Evaluation/Recommendation Program. Your letter writer can forward your letter to AMCAS through the AMCAS Letter Writer Application, Interfolio, Mail or Virtual Evals. Once AMCAS receives your letter, they will release an electronic copy to TUSM, as long as you designate Temple as a recipient on your AMCAS application.

The deadline for submitting supplementary materials is January 16, 2012. Applicants who are reapplying to Temple University must resubmit all application materials including letters of reference. Once your application has been verified by AMCAS, applicants can check which materials have been processed by the Office of Admissions.

Temple is a private, state-related medical school and welcomes applications from non-residents of Pennsylvania. Tuition is higher for nonresidents, but it is comparable to the tuition at many private medical schools.
