What
does it take to transform an under- performing urban school district?
The George Lucas Foundation has featured an interactive case study on system
wide change. This study looks at what it takes to transform an under-performing
urban school district. The system shown in this interactive study is the Union
City, New Jersey School District.

Child Left Behind Act: Assessment and Data Requirements: The
Pennsylvania Educational Research Association (PERA) is presenting a one-day
workshop on the assessment and data requirements of the No Child Left Behind law
(NCLB) on March 11 and 27, 2003. The March 11 location is the Berks IU in
Reading, and the March 27 site is the Midwestern IU in Grove City. The purpose
of this workshop is to provide an update on NCLB and the implications the act
has on school districts' assessment and data requirements.
Mobile
Bio Lab for Maryland: The MdBioLab is an initiative that provides a
mobile bio lab that will provide a learning environment centered on bioscience
for high school students and their teachers throughout the state of Maryland.
MdBioLab will also effectively illustrate various pathways for students to
pursue successful bioscience careers.
TESOL 2003: Baltimore, MD; March 25-29, 2003. The theme for TESOL 2003 is
"Hearing Every Voice." The annual TESOL Convention and Exhibit is the leading
worldwide professional development opportunity in ESOL. It has presentations
sponsored by 19 interest sections and a half-dozen caucus groups.
2003 NSTA National Convention: Philadelphia, PA; March 27-30, 2003. NSTA
conventions are open to all science educators as presenters or attendees. NSTA's
mission is to promote excellence and innovation in science teaching and
learning. The convention is carefully planned to respond to the changing
professional development needs of science educators, especially in this
standards-driven era.
The
12th Annual Delaware Instructional Technology Conference
will be held on April 9-10, 2003 in Dover, DE. This conference offers
professionals throughout the mid-Atlantic region an opportunity to meet and
exchange ideas on the present and future of instructional technology. The
conference focuses on successful technological applications used in today's
classrooms as well as the emerging technologies of the future.
EDUCAUSE Networking 2003: Washington, DC; April 30-May 1, 2003. This
annual conference provides a forum for higher education information technology
leaders to gather and discuss policy and practical issues associated with
advancing networking technologies and usage. In addition, it provides an
opportunity to launch and report on major initiatives.
