organizations can now qualify to receive technology grants from Electronics for
Imaging (EFI) in the form of a FREE or discounted eBeam System 1.

to capture and transfer handwritten notes and drawings from your existing
dry-erase whiteboard to your Mac or PC. Available in two compact designs, the
eBeam System attaches to your board so lecture notes, brainstorm sessions and
written ideas can be saved, edited, printed, emailed, beamed to a Palm handheld
or shared over the Internet in real time. The eBeam System, with the assistance

3.GIS Workshops, Hardware,
Software Offered to Teachers
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a powerful tool comprised of
hardware and software to store, manipulate and analyze spatial data. It is a
fast-growing technology that can help students learn about and understand their
environment. A GIS uses real data at a variety of scales, so students can look
at information from around the world or their local area. Students learn to
create maps, explore patterns, ask questions, and analyze issues. As an
interdisciplinary tool it can help students learn in all core subjects and
extra-curricular activities.
This summer, three introductory GIS workshops are being offered and funded by
the Pennsylvania Department of Educations Office of Educational Technology.
University faculty from around the state will be hosting GIS workshops at three
locations.
There is no cost for the workshop, and meals and lodging will be provided to
workshop participants. The workshops are open to any public school K-12 educator
teaching in Pennsylvania, however material will be focused on the junior high
level and will incorporate the newly passed geography state standards.
Applications are due by June 30,2002. To find out more about the workshops click
