3. E RATE NEWS: SLD Sets Dates of Year 5 Filing Window
The governing body of the Schools
and Libraries Division has voted to set the dates of the
Funding Year 5 filing window from Monday Nov. 5, 2001
to Thursday Jan. 17, 2002.

4. Are you a State of Pennsylvania "eTechPlanner"?
If so, Training Workshops Scheduled for April.
To assist the 260 schools that have technology
plans due by April 30, 2002, the Pennsylvania Department
of Education has just announced an initial offering of three
general information eTechPlanner V2 workshops. They will
be held at three venues located in the eastern, central,
and western areas of the state. Click

Grants
National Education Association Foundation
Innovation Grants. The foundation awards grants to educators
who propose innovative and promising ways to help all students
experience academic success and reach their full potential,
especially those who have been historically underserved
by society's institutions. NFIE conducts research on these
efforts and publishes reports on its findings. Public K-12
schoolteachers and support personnel are eligible to apply
for the grant. Notification for applications postmarked
by March 15, 2002 will be made by August 1, 2002. There
will be 200 grants of $2,000 each. http://www.nfie.org/
Wallace-Readers' Digest sponsors the Ventures in
Leadership program designed to support innovative ideas
in education leadership from a wide range of communities,
especially those in low-income neighborhoods. The awards
range from $5,000 to $50,000. The grant is a part of the
Wallace-Readers' Digest Leaders Count initiative, intended
to support the improvement of classroom learning, strengthen
the preparation of school leaders and improve their condition
under which they run their school.. Applications may be
submitted through November 30. Information is available

funds Web site.
IBM Corporation offers Education Grants through its
Community Relations Program. Although IBM initiates most
of the grant proposals, unsolicited proposals that focus
on education and technology are also considered. Priority
is given to requests involving IBM technology or the volunteer
efforts of IBM employees. More details can be found from
the Web site.
It does not have any specific deadlines.
Pfizer Foundation Grants are awarded to programs
that target either health care or science and engineering
education. Unsolicited proposals are seldom funded; the
foundation does accept letters of inquiry throughout the
year. The requirements can be found on the Web
site. Pfizer is interested in projects similar
to the foundation's goals and objectives. It does not have
a specific deadline.
International Technology Education Association is
the professional organization of technology teachers, whose
mission is to promote technological literacy for all by
supporting the teaching of technology. The Grants section
provides information on support programs offered by the
Foundation for Technology Education and ITEA. Opportunities
are available to ITEA members only, and deadlines depend
upon the type of grant chosen. www.iteawww.org
Toyota USA Foundation funds K-12 education programs,
especially in the areas of mathematics and science. Priority
is given to Systemic math and science programs that are
broad in scope and incorporate interdisciplinary curriculum,
creative and innovative programs that develop the potential
of students, teachers and cost-effective programs
that possess a high potential for success with relatively
low duplication of effort. Applications are reviewed continually
(no deadline).
