According to eSchool News, Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to Use Technology (PT3) is currently in trouble in Congress. PT3 is a " $62.5 million effort that promotes partnerships between colleges of education and K-12 schools to help new teachers integrate technology into their instruction." FREE TEACHERS' TOOLKIT FOR DIGITAL CONTENT IN THE CLASSROOM

A free toolkit is available to help find and use digital content in the classroom. Designed especially for those with disabilities, practical software tools and model lessons can help teachers find digital text, images, sound, and video appropriate to their curricular needs or to create their own digital learning materials using downloadable content and commercially available software. Sponsored by the Verizon Foundation and developed by the Center for Applied Special Technology (CAST)-a nonprofit organization whose mission is to use technology to expand educational opportunities-the toolkits are available free of charge to teachers at www.cast.org/digitalcontenttoolkit

WIRELESS SCHOOLS

The Acer America Corporation will provide free wireless access points and installation to 120 selected K-12 schools nationwide. With the support of Intel, Acer America will canvas and select one school in each qualified school district for Wi-Fi 101. Each designated school will be eligible for the installation of up to four access points in two different locations at no cost to the school or district. The installation of the wireless access points requires no funding or manpower contribution on the part of school or district personnel. Interested schools are invited to contact Acer at the website below for details on applying. Schools will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. IDEAS ABOUT MAKING LEARNING FUN?

The Best Buy Children's Foundation will award $3 million to 1,200 schools across the country whose educators use technology to make learning fun. The te@ch program awards $2,500 grants to schools in recognition of programs or projects that creatively integrate interactive technology into the curriculum. Each selected school must be located within 25 miles of a Best Buy store. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. The earlier an application is received, the better the chances of receiving a te@ch grant. The application period opened Oct. 17.
