2. Welcome Our New Director, Dr. Laurence Peters
Dr. Laurence Peters comes to MAR*TEC having served for eight years for the US Department of Education working with OERI's Assistant Secretary as a Senior Policy Advisor and then moving to the Empowerment Zone Task force as Deputy Director. Prior to serving with the Department of Education, he was counsel to a U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Education for six years. Dr. Peters has also taught at every level of education both in the UK and the US and holds a masters, doctorate and JD degree. His passion is the way educational technology can improve opportunities for students placed at-risk for educational failure. He is co-authoring a book on the Digital Divide and has written several articles in this area.
Excited about serving as MAR*TEC's director he says
"Working with a team of energetic and gifted individuals who care so strongly about the future of our public schools and the potential technology as a tool to help reach high standards is a joy and a professional privilege"
We wish Dr. Peters every success in his task.
