About Us

The Mid-Atlantic Regional Technology in Education Consortium (MAR*TEC) comprises the Temple University Center for Research in Human Development and Education, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Frostburg State University, University of Delaware/Office of Educational Technology, Temple University Instructional and Learning Technologies Program (ILT), and a network of rural and urban demonstration schools across the region.

MAR*TEC aims to address the region's educational reform needs to ensure that every student in the region becomes technologically proficient to enhance their ability to achieve schooling success and fully participate in the workplace of 21st century America and the global economy.

MAR*TEC envisions a connected system of delivery that links schools, parents, community agencies, professional groups, higher education institutions, and innovative program developers to mobilize a rich array of expertise and existing resources across the region and at all levels of the educational community. A major expected outcome of the work of MAR*TEC is a "community of practice" throughout the mid-Atlantic region with a shared vision of improvements in education that is infused with advances in learning technologies and pedagogical methods, emphasizing subject matter, content, knowledge acquisition, and the development of higher order reasoning and problem-solving expertise.

MAR*TEC's Objectives:

  • Build a knowledge base and the capacity for implementing effective integration of learning technologies in schools throughout the region;
  • Implement learning technologies as an integral component of educational reform efforts;
  • Place special priority on servicing schools and communities with a high concentration of students from economically and educationally disadvantaged circumstances; and
  • Establish a collaborative network of universities, preK-12 schools, and learning technology providers in the region committed to providing technical assistance, professional development, and demonstration of an integrated approach to infusing learning technology into teaching and learning to achieve high levels of student success.
