Adult Literacy/Adult Basic Education (ABE)/English as a Second Language (ESL)

  • The Adult Literacy/ESL project builds on the Adult Education and Development program at the Center for Research in Human Development and Education which was established in 1984. The current program includes three coordinated projects designed to support, develop, and extend technology-based, adult literacy training programs in the Mid-Atlantic region.
  • The ESL resources are provided in collaboration with the Center for Intergenerational Learning through Project SHINE (Students Helping in the Naturalization of Elders). For more information about Project SHINE, please see www.projectshine.org.
  • The Online Searchable Directory of Adult Literacy Providers in the Mid-Atlantic Region, consisting of more than 250 ABE/ESL programs is now available. The directory is an interactive network geared toward the specific needs of the region in terms of languages taught and geographical areas served. Enter the database: Adult Education Providers in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
