(Q3) Image and Sound : Does the software use flashing or blinking images?    [ See Standard #3 ]

In this software, students move the fireman from side to side. They zap the flaming math problems by solving the equation. The students must answer the math problem before the flaming fact burns all the way to the roof. Despite all the excitement of playing a game and practicing math skills, this software may not be accessible to students who have photosensitive epilepsy and are prone to seizures when flashing or blinking images fall between 2Hz and 55Hz. Software can only be considered accessible if the flash rate is verified to be within that range.

An easy way to determine if an image is blinking too fast would be to tap your foot and count “one one thousand, two one thousand, three one thousand.”  Then, count the number of times an image flashes on the screen. If the image flashes faster than your count, it may be a problem for a student with photosensitive epilepsy. If it flashes slower, it is probably okay.
