LSS Principal Leadership Forum
“No Child Left Behind: Action Planning for Adequate Yearly
Progress.”
School principals from the 17 districts served
by Riverview Intermediate Unit 6 (RIU), headquartered in
Clarion, Pennsylvania, participated in a
2-day LSS Principal Leadership Forum, titled “No Child Left
Behind: Action Planning for Adequate Yearly Progress.” The
sessions focused on school and district requirements for meeting
AYP as outlined in the Pennsylvania Consolidated State
Application Accountability Workbook. Participants were led in a
discussion and overview of the workbook as it applies to schools
and districts. Many participants were able to download their
district and building AYP reports, which initiated lively
conversations and the making of specific planning decisions
based on data generated from the PASA test results. In addition
to the principal participants, Ronald Grimm, superintendent of
the Woodland Hills School District, and Stephen Biancaniello,
assistant superintendent for instruction, Mt. Lebanon School
District, provided strategies and practices in data analysis.
Different tools, useful in data-driven decision making, were
provided by the presentation team that included Patricia
Felton-Montgomery, director of educational leadership, LSS;
Frederick McCoy, director of professional development, LSS;
Richard Bonnar, assistant executive director, RIU; Lynne Snyder,
curriculum and instruction specialist, RIU; and Kevin Watkins,
director of technology, RIU. Participants were able to begin an
action plan during the forum. The planning template allowed
principals to begin the process of identifying barriers to
meeting AYP and areas of success. Action plans provide a
direction for principals to begin the new school year ready to
move their buildings closer to achieving AYP or improving AYP
practices
so that all their students will be proficient in reading and
mathematics by 2013–2014. |
