Information for Parents

According to the federal legislation, schools and districts that receive Comprehensive School Reform grants must provide for “the meaningful involvement of parents and the local community in planning, implementing, and evaluating school improvement activities,” and schools involved in writing grant applications must include such provisions in their plans. Plans will vary from school to school and district to district, so an interested parent seeking greater involvement should ask the school and the district what avenues are open.

Although written for a school-based audience,
"Supporting Parent, Family, and Community Involvement in Your School" offers an excellent review of multiple ways that parents may be involved with school programs.
