Laboratory for Student Success (LSS),
the Mid-Atlantic Regional Educational Laboratory at
Temple University, hosted a 21st Century Community
Learning Center Network (CCLC) meeting on January 10,
2003. The purpose of this event was to provide the state
coordinators an opportunity to discuss the initial state
grant process (current U.S. Department of Education CCLC
grant funding is almost $1 billion) and share their
experiences. This was the first year that the states had
the responsibility of administering and overseeing the
implementation of the CCLC.
Peter Eldridge, U.S. Department of Education program
officer, provided the participants with an overview of
the State Coordinators Meeting that was held in
Washington, DC, on November 19–20, 2002. Roy Dawson, LSS
research associate, and Wendy Russell, Region III
Comprehensive Center research associate, provided the
state coordinators with technical assistance on
planning, sustainability, and evaluating this CCLC
program. Pat Barnicle, National Center for Community
Education regional associate, provided the participants
from Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Washington,
DC, with an overview of regional training opportunities
for grantees.
The next CCLC meeting is scheduled for April 21, 2003,
at LSS in Philadelphia. |
