The CCNO is a part of the law school clinical program of the Beasley Law School at Temple University. The CCNO serves only non-profits, and offers service free of charge to clients who qualify. The Center represents tax-exempt organizations providing opportunities for neighborhood revitalization, and individual uplift; including housing, health services, educational, microenterprise, job and asset development. The Center offers its services to organizations which serve low-income communities.

The CCNO has two permanent staff members. The Center is directed by Sharon Wilson, a transactional attorney who practices in the areas of affordable housing, non-profit corporate, and tax-exemption law. Every semester a new group of third-year law students are invited to join the center to put their knowledge of business associations and other diverse skills to task under the supervision and leadership of the attorney.

Schedule

Our schedule is defined in part by the fact that law students work only during the academic year. We provide service to our existing clients all year round, but we accept new clients primarily in the late summer and fall and winter.

Location

The CCNO is located in Temple's Law School, 1719 North Broad Street at Cecil B. Moore. You can schedule meetings at our center, or we can come and make site visits and attend board meetings.

Our Goals

The Center's goal is to link community empowerment and education. We strive to build and develop nonprofit organizations by offering capacity building, technical assistance such as needs assessments, as well as traditional legal services such as drafting nonprofit organizational documents and contracts. These services are provided by third year Temple University law students under the supervision of a lawyer to community based organizations, so the students can learn community lawyering skills, and the social, economic and legal components of economic development. Because of the Center's teaching and academic environment in Temple Law School the lawyer and students collaborate to provide uniquely thorough, innovative and attentive support that builds capacity and empowers organizations.
