Summer 2012 Lab Exam Review
** A floppy diskette will be provided to you during the examination. Make sure to bring your TU ID for printing purposes.**
Written Portion - 20 Points
The following is a list of everything you should know for the written portion of your lab exam. This is really a check list for you. You should be familiar with everything listed on this page. The written portion of the exam will contain multiple choice, true/false, matching, fill in the blank, and short answer questions. All answers can be found on the CIS 1055 web page so please do not e-mail your instructors asking for answers! Thanks and good luck!
General Knowledge
- The parts of a window - title bar, menu bar, status bar, and toolbar and know for what each is used. Be able to identify and write about the desktop, icons, and task bar.
- File extensions for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, web page files, sound files, and picture files.
- Know what each program is used for - example: Word for documents, Excel for spreadsheets, etc.
- Your Temple e-mail address and web page address (URL).
- Know all acronyms from the course (FTP, URL, HTML, HTTP).
- Know the URL for the 1055 website
LAB 1
- Be familiar with all questions on the lab 1 handout/assignment on file management.
- Know what a listserv is, what it is used for, and what your class listserv address is.
PowerPoint
- All views in PowerPoint and the purpose of each view
- File extension for a PowerPoint presentation
- Understand the difference between a slide and title master
- How to insert an image
- How to insert a new slide into your presentation
- How to print out handouts
- Know what a design theme is.
- Know how to set up animation and transitions
Excel
- Know the names of 5 charts in Excel.
- Know the difference between a formula and a function and be able to list at least 5 functions used in Excel.
- File extension for a workbook
- The difference between absolute and relative cell references and what happens to them when they are copied and pasted or moved via the autofill button.
- Understand how formulas change when they are copied
- For example: If cell D2 contains the formula =A1+$b$2 what will the new formula be when copied to cell location D3
- Know the order of operations
- Formulas start with what symbol?
- Absolute references can be identified by which symbol?
- Be able to write down what a generic if statement looks like.
- Be able to explain when a nested IF statement is necessary
Web Pages and Internet
- Know the 2 most popular web browsers used today.
- Know the file name in ASTRO/UNIX for the first (home) page of a web site.
- Know 5 form components that can be used in a web page form.
- Which folder in your astro account must all files be placed in order to show on the Internet?
- Understand basic UNIX commands such as LS and CD
- Briefly explain the difference of setting a link to a page outside of your web and a link to a page in your web.
- Web page file extension and the file extensions for common web images (jpg and gif) and sounds (.mid and .wav)
- What does CGI stand for, what it means and how we use it in lab
"Hands On" Portion - 15 Points
For the hands on portion of the lab exam you will required to solve multiple problems using the Excel software package. If you fully understand the assignments from the Excel labs and are able to use all of the tools to complete the required assignments, you should have no trouble with the hands on portion of the lab exam. Here are some of the things you should be able to do with Excel:
- Format numbers as currency, percentages, and decimals.
- Set numbers to a specified number of decimal places.
- Complete an autosum and average using the correct functions.
- Use the autofill tool properly and be able to autofit when necessary.
- Be able to create a chart when asked to do so, without including improper information.
- How to add a textbox to the chart and draw an arrow to specific information on the chart.
- Understand why it is important to use cell references in all formulas and know that when necessary, you should create those cell references to complete a problem
- Know how to increase and decrease numbers by a given percentage
- Know how and when to use the order of operations.
- Be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide using Excel formulas.
- Find a percentage increase or decrease when given the formula
- Use an IF statement when necessary.
- Use a nested IF statement when necessary
- Use a COUNT function
- Use the SUM, AVERAGE, MIN, MAX, MEDIAN functions
- The ability to combine functions when necessary
- How to do a sort in Excel
- ** Be able to print out an Excel spreadsheet with the landscape setting on 1 piece of paper.
- ** Be able to print out an Excel spreadsheet with the gridlines and row & column headings showing.
- ** Be able to print out both the normal and formula views of an Excel spreadsheet.
