Welcome

The Department of Journalism offers the Master of Journalism degree (M.J.), designed for students who expect to work in news and information fields. The program's academic and professional course work covers reporting, editing, new media, magazine writing, news editing, and media management. We emphasize the integration of skills across disciplines. A new Multimedia Urban Reporting Lab (MURL), based in Center City Philadelphia, seeks to widen the dispersal of news and information to underserved communities.

The program is designed for liberal arts or communication graduates seeking a mass communications career. Practicing professionals will be able to refine their writing and editing skills and solidify the academic foundation of their careers. The M.J. program consists of 40 hours of graduate course work. Courses are offered on the University's main campus and in Center City, Philadelphia.
