The Application

Applicants must submit a statement of goals, official transcripts, scores from the Graduate Record Examination and two letters of recommendation. Writing samples and a record of professional experience also can be submitted. Download an application here.

Taking the GRE

All applicants must take the Graduate Record Exam prior to acceptance into the program. The GRE Web site has information about the test and when it's offered.

Deadlines

The M.J. program has rolling admissions. A completed application may be considered at almost any time. In general, however, applications must be complete by March 1 to be considered for assistantships and scholarships. Most applications for Fall matriculation are complete by March 1. Most applications for Spring matriculation are complete by November 1.

Financial Aid

College and Department Awards

The School of Communications and Theater awards several Graduate Assistantships. Assistantships include a stipend plus tuition remission. Recipients work 20 hours per week while performing research, teaching or completing administrative tasks for a department or program within SCT. An application must by submitted by March 15 to the School of Communications and Theater. Read about some of our awards.

Federal Stafford Loans

Loans are available to students enrolled for at least half time (5 credits) per semester. Applications are available at local banks, credit unions or other lending institutions.

Federal Work Study

The FWS program at Temple is designed to provide part time employment of students who demonstrate financial need based on federal calculations and require employment income to pursue their education. Students employed under FWS may work for the university or other public, private, nonprofit organizations or agencies.
