The ITA Program was initiated in 1990, after the
Pennsylvania Fluency in Higher
Education Act of 1990 mandated that all instructors with classroom
teaching responsibilities who are not native speakers of English be
certified in English prior to assuming those
responsibilities.
Teaching Assistants who are not native-speakers of English can take
advantage of the ITA program and be connected to a Temple conversation partner to enhance their communicative
competence and improve their ability to participate in a variety of
instructional roles.
The ITA Program operates under the Intensive English Language Program in the Office of International Affairs. The ITA program coordinator is responsible for the assessment and training of international teaching assistants. ITA Coordinator: Janice Duenas-McKnight, ita@temple.edu, 215-204-5526.
