Among
the most valued members of Temple University are its
many international scholars. They come here to occupy
faculty and staff positions, not only as participants
in exchange programs or as visiting professors, lecturers,
or researchers, but also as permanent appointments
to the faculty. Each year, the University hosts more
than 1,300 professional colleagues from abroad. In
themselves, they are tangible evidence of the international
stature and commitment of the University.
While
immigration law is complex and subject to frequent
revision, hiring international scholars and students
need not be a complex and perplexing task. However,
advice on individual cases should always be sought
from the Office of International Services.
These web pages
provide basic information about immigration classifications
and procedures and discuss in some detail the roles
and responsibilities of the hiring department in the
process. This information is meant to advise departments,
but not serve as a substitute for individual consultation
with the Office of International Services. Because
of the complexity of the federal regulations affecting
nonimmigrant employment in the United States and because
of the and the frequent changes in these regulations,
we urge you to consult with the Office of International
Services prior to making any appointment.
