Academics and practitioners with an interest in research,
theory, and applications related to the concept of presence came together
to attend PRESENCE 2001 at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
in the United States, May 21-23, 2001. This web site contains the Proceedings

PRESENCE 2001 was the fourth in a series of highly successful
International Workshops on Presence (see the web site of the
International
Society for Presence Research)
and the first to be held in the United States.
PRESENCE 2001 provided an open discussion forum to
share ideas regarding concepts and theories, measurement techniques, and
applications regarding presence, the psychological state or subjective
perception in which a person fails to accurately and completely acknowledge
the role of technology in an experience, including the sense of 'being
there' experienced by users of advanced media such as virtual reality.
Papers, videos, and demonstrations regarding completed
or ongoing work were presented in areas such as:
