Categories of Submission

Work can be submitted in the following categories:

  • Papers: These are comprehensive descriptions of original research or design work within the scope of the workshop. Papers are 5 to 12 pages in the PRESENCE 2007 template format (see below) and will be considered for oral presentation.

  • Panels: These are sets of presentations on a single theme or topic within the scope of the workshop. Submitters are encouraged to be creative regarding both the topic or theme and the format of panel proposals. Possibilities include (but are certainly not limited to):
    • a series of prepared papers that address related issues of measurement, theory or application
    • a roundtable discussion or debate on a single provocative topic or claim
    • descriptions and demonstrations of different virtual environments related to each other in form or function
    • presentations of related projects being conducted at the same lab or institution or among collaborative partners at different institutions

Panel proposals should include brief descriptions of the format and separate components (papers/presentations/demonstrations/etc.) and a brief explanation of the potential value of the panel session. The proposals are limited to 4 pages in the PRESENCE 2007 template format (adjusted as necessary).

  • Extended Abstracts: These are brief presentations of tentative or preliminary results of research or design work within the scope of the workshop. Extended abstracts are 2 to 4 pages in the PRESENCE 2007 template format and will be considered for oral presentation after all accepted full papers are scheduled.

  • Posters: These are visual display presentations. Submissions are limited to 4 pages which contain miniature versions of the larger pages that would be displayed at the conference.

  • Demonstrations/exhibitions: These are step-by-step audiovisual demonstrations and/or hands-on experiences of (commercial or academic) work within the scope of the workshop. Proposals for demonstrations/exhibitions are limited to 4 pages in the PRESENCE 2007 template format.

Review and Publication

All submitted papers will be blind peer-reviewed by at least two selected reviewers and authors will be notified regarding acceptance or rejection by approximately July 20, 2007.

Work accepted for presentation will be included in the official conference proceedings and may be posted on the ISPR, presence-connect, and presence-research.org web sites prior to the conference. Authors of some of the presented papers will be invited to revise their paper for publication in one or more special conference issues of CyberPsychology & Behavior or Presence: Teleoperators and Virtual Environments.

NOTE: Do not submit previously published work to PRESENCE 2007.

NOTE: If your submitted work is accepted for presentation at PRESENCE 2007, it (or a slightly revised version of it) will appear in the official conference proceedings. Although you will retain ownership of the copyright for your work, if you plan to submit the work for possible publication in a journal or book, you will likely be required to submit only a substantially expanded and/or refined version of your work and only after you receive feedback from the reviewers and other colleagues at the conference.
