To Submit Your Work

Before you submit your work for possible presentation at PRESENCE 2005 please read the following information. To go directly to the online submission system, click here.

Categories of Submission

Work can be submitted in the following categories:

  • Full papers: These will be comprehensive descriptions of original research or design work within the scope of the workshop. Full papers are limited to 12 pages in the PRESENCE 2005 template format (see below) and will be considered for oral presentation (unless the submitter requests consideration only for poster presentation).
  • Short papers: These will present tentative or preliminary results of research or design work within the scope of the workshop. Short papers will also be included in the proceedings and are limited to 4 pages in the PRESENCE 2005 template format (see below). Short papers will be considered for both oral presentation and poster presentation.
  • Posters: Visual display presentation. Submissions are limited to 4 A4 pages which contain miniature versions of the larger pages that would be displayed at the conference.
  • Demonstrations/exhibitions: These will be step-by-step audiovisual demonstrations and/or hands-on experiences of (commercial or academic) work within the scope of the workshop. Proposals for demonstrations/exhibitions are limited to 2 pages in the PRESENCE 2005 template format (see below).
  • Panels: These will be sets of presentations on a single theme or topic within the scope of the workshop. Submitters are encouraged to be creative regarding both the topic and format of panel proposals. Possibilities include (but are certainly not limited to):
    • a series of prepared papers that address related issues of measurement, theory or application
    • a roundtable discussion or debate on a single provocative topic or claim
    • descriptions and demonstrations of different virtual environments related to each other in form or function
    • presentations of related projects being conducted at the same lab or institution or among collaborative partners at different institutions

Panel proposals should include brief descriptions of the format and separate components (papers/presentations/demonstrations/etc.) and a brief explanation of the potential value of the panel session. The proposals are limited to 4 pages in the PRESENCE 2005 template format (adjusted as necessary).

Review and Publication

All submitted papers will be blind peer-reviewed by at least two selected reviewers and authors will be notified regarding acceptance or rejection by July 11, 2005.

Work accepted for presentation will be included in the official conference proceedings and may be posted on the ISPR, presence-connect, and presence-research.org web sites prior to the conference. Authors of as many as 20 of the presented papers will be invited to revise their paper for publication in one of two special conference issues (August and October 2006) of the MIT Press journal Presence: Teleoperators and Virtual Environments.

NOTE: Do not submit previously published work to PRESENCE 2005.

NOTE: If your submitted work is accepted for presentation at PRESENCE 2005, it (or a slightly revised version of it) will appear in the official conference proceedings. Although you will retain ownership of the copyright for your work, if you plan to submit the work for possible publication in a journal or book, you will likely be required to submit only a substantially expanded and/or refined version of your work and only after you receive feedback from the reviewers and other colleagues at the conference.
