JAY MECHLING (jemechling@ucdavis.edu) is Professor of American Studies at
the University of California, Davis. All of his degrees are in American
Studies, and he was editor of WESTERN FOLKLORE from 1984 through 1989. His
book, ON MY HONOR: THE BOY SCOUTS AND AMERICAN CULTURE will be published
in fall, 2001 by the University of Chicago Press.
