Temple faculty and staff may already be aware that many Temple students don't realize they can participate in education abroad. They don't think their major will allow it, or more often, they assume they can't afford it. If faculty and staff at Temple help students get the facts about studying abroad, they may discover that it is, in fact, possible.
Here are some ideas about how to help:
Invite Education Abroad to class
Education Abroad staff and peer advisers are available to visit classes and give brief presentations on the basics of Education Abroad (academics, accommodation options, program types, financial resources, locations, etc.) as well as share stories from their own recent study abroad experiences.
Integrate Education Abroad into the curriculum
Talk about international subject matter while teaching a class. Remind students that they can get a first-hand glimpse at these subjects on their own.
Share international experiences
Sometimes the idea of leaving Temple for a semester seems scary or intimidating to students, many of whom are away from a tight-knit family or community for the first time in their lives. Faculty can share their own international experiences with students to make them more comfortable with the idea.
