OIA Welcomes a New Assistant Vice President
Dr. Alistair Howard joined International Affairs as the assistant vice president of Education Abroad and Overseas Campuses in July. Dr. Howard is an experienced and accomplished leader in international education. He has served for the last three years as associate dean and chief academic officer at Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ). Prior to that, he was associate professor of instruction in political science in the College of Liberal Arts at Temple, where he will continue to teach political science courses. At TUJ, Dr. Howard was responsible for overseeing the academics of a diverse, international student body including graduate students and more than 1200 matriculated undergraduate students from around the world, and study abroad students from Temple and across the U.S. During his tenure at TUJ, he worked closely with Education Abroad and Overseas Campuses, as well as other units, schools and colleges to strengthen ties between Main Campus and TUJ. He gained the respect and trust of faculty and students, improved resources and built a strong foundation for further growth and connection. His demonstrated success in academic administration and faculty/student services has prepared him well to lead Education Abroad into the future. He understands the complex, evolving global political landscape, as well as the needs of globalization in higher education. He is committed to Temple's internationalization mission and possesses the vision to increase the diversity of opportunities in study abroad for all students and support the success of Temple's overseas campuses and programs. |
