Once we are alerted to an emergency situation, what do we do?

We need to make sure we have everything prepared so we are ready for an emergency. We should have two plans: one is a plan for staying in our home and the other is a plan for when we must leave our homes to go to a safe place, a shelter, or a friend's house. This is something we should talk over with our family members or the people we live with because a plan may already be in place. For cases in which we need to leave our homes, we should identify where we will go and how we will get there. So we should also plan with our loved ones how we can get to a shelter or other safe places in case of an emergency or disaster.
