The ATLEND-L Mailing List

Purpose of the Mailing List

Pennsylvania's Assistive Technology Lending Library (AT Lending Library) has an email "mailing list" for the ATRC's, the AT Lending Library "circulating department" at HGA, and the project administration/coordination staff at the Institute on Disabilities/UCEDD at Temple University. The purpose of this list is to provide a forum to ask for information and share experiences in the operation of the AT Lending Library.

Once you subscribe to the list, you can conveniently broadcast email to all the other subscribers. Examples of email may include procedural questions, requests for more information or other people's experiences regarding a product; sharing information about relevant conferences, and any other topics relevant to the AT Lending Library.

Everyone involved in the AT Lending Library is invited to join this email list.

How to Join and Leave the List

The easiest way to subscribe is to use the web-based subscription form. It offers a number of options: you can just stay with the defaults.

(Alternatively you can subscribe and unsubscribe by email. This is useful for people who have email but no web access.)

How to Send Mail to the People on the List

To send mail to everyone else on the list, simply send your mail to the distribution address: ATLEND-L@LISTSERV.TEMPLE.EDU

(Do not use this address to remove yourself from the list. If you want to leave the list, use the web based subscription form.)

How to Reply to Mail You Receive on the List

To send a reply to a message on the list that you want everyone on the list to see, use the "reply" feature of your email program.

(Warning about personal replies : If you want to send a private, personal reply to the person who wrote mail to the list, do not use your email "reply" feature: "reply" will send the mail to everyone on the list. Instead, copy the email address of the individual you want to personally reply to and paste it into a new message. Make sure you haven't included the distribution address in the "To" field of your private reply! Even experienced users sometimes make this mistake. Other lists may work differently.)

How to Access the List Archives

All mail on the list is stored in the list archives.

The list is accessible on the web at http://listserv.temple.edu/archives/atlend-l.html

You can also get the archives by email.

Confidentiality and Lack of It

Access to the email distribution and the archives is theoretically limited to people who subscribe to the list. This offers some deterrence against people who search archives to compile lists of email addresses for advertising purposes ("spam" email). However, we do not restrict who subscribes, so everything you write, as well as your email address, is, in effect, public. In addition, there is no guarantee that someone could gain access without subscribing to the list.

Also, even if you never send mail to the list, other people on the list can find your name by use of the REVIEW command, which gives the email address and name of all subscribers on the list. If you do not want your name to be visible via the REVIEW, send the command SET ATLEND-L CONCEAL to the administration address LISTSERV@LISTSERV.TEMPLE.EDU. Keep in mind that even if you use the CONCEAL command, your mail and name will still appear in the email distribution and archives if you send any mail.
