Interested in becoming trained
in the Inside-Out teaching model?

Take part in one of the upcoming Instructor Training Institutes
and bring the Inside-Out experience to your college or university campus.


WHO:

College professors, adjunct instructors, teaching assistants and other professionals interested in starting an Inside-Out Program at their college or university.

WHAT:

A comprehensive training program that covers everything necessary to develop a course in the Inside-Out model: curriculum development, setting parameters, institutional relationships, group dynamics, interactive pedagogical approaches, and much more. It is an opportunity to learn this transformative educational method through observation, hands-on experience, dialogue, and engagement with a working group inside Graterford Prison. 

Training will be followed by consultation and support to assist in on-site program development.

WHERE:

At the Pendle Hill and Temenos Conference Centers near Temple University, Philadelphia, PA and the State Correctional Institution at Graterford, a maximum-security state prison one hour outside of Philadelphia.

WHY:

Inside-Out provides a unique pedagogical approach with the potential for far-reaching change for everyone involved — college students, prison participants, as well as the instructor facilitating the class.  It is transformative experiential education at its best.

The Inside-Out Training Institutes will be held at the Temenos Conference Center in West Chester , PA and will include two full days at the State Correctional Institution at Graterford , PA.

Accomodations at Temenos are comfortable, welcoming, and perfect for the work we will be doing together. Information about Temenos may be found on their website at: http://www.temenosretreat.org

Temenos serves freshly prepared healthy meals and can accommodate most diets with advanced notice. They will be catering most of our meals during the week. Some meals will be prepared “to go” on days that we travel to the prisons. Some evenings will be free for relaxing dinners out on your own.


The Institute will include:

A significant portion of the training will take place inside the Pennsylvania State Correctional Institution at Graterford.

This will include:

  • Tours of the Philadelphia Prison System and CSI Graterford
  • Several Meetings inside with the Graterford Think Tank
  • Group course and lesson planning with mock Inside-Out facilitations inside with the Think Tank participants.
