The William Maul Measey Institute for Clinical Simulation and Patient Safety (ICS) is comprised of two areas--Clinical Simulation and Clinical Skills. By design, each area has specific features. For more detail, view our floor plan (137KB).

Clinical Simulation

Simulation Rooms 354A and 354B:

The patient simulation rooms have been designed to mimic a patient hospital room. Rooms 354A and 354B share a connecting doorway and each room contains the following:

  • Head wall with simulated oxygen, medical air and suction
  • Sink for hand washing
  • Wall-mounted hand sanitizer and sharps disposal
  • Adjacent control room for remote live viewing
  • Ceiling mounted PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom) cameras for recording (2)
  • Dry erase board, 46" x 70"
  • Telephone

Simulation Rooms 356A and 356B:

Room 356A is set-up as an Emergency Room bay. Room 356B is outfitted as an Operating Room. The rooms are divided by a moveable wall that can be opened to allow the expansion of the rooms. The configuration of these rooms may be modified based on program needs.

Room 356A - Emergency Room:

  • Hospital gurney with patient simulator and monitor
  • Head wall with simulated oxygen, medical air and suction
  • Surgical scrub sink for hand washing
  • Wall-mounted hand sanitizer and sharps disposal
  • Adjacent control room for remove live viewing
  • Ceiling mounted PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom) cameras for recording (2)
  • Dry erase board, 46" x 70"
  • Telephone

Room 356B - Operating Room:

  • OR patient table
  • OR lights
  • OR Mayo stands and instruments
  • Head wall with simulated oxygen, medical air and suction
  • Surgical scrub sink for hand washing
  • Wall-mounted hand sanitizer and sharps disposal
  • Adjacent control room for remote live viewing
  • Ceiling mounted PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom) cameras for recording (2)
  • Dry erase board, 46" x 70"
  • Telephone

Multipurpose Room 357:

This multipurpose room contains a Nursing Station module, an FLS training area, a refrigerator and freezer for storage of simulation materials, and space for storage of supplies. There is also a large sink for cleaning of equipment and instruments.

Nursing Station Module:

  • Desk area with computer and phone
  • Med cart, ancillary equipment and supplies for simulation
  • Ceiling mounted PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom) cameras for recording (1)

FLS Training Area:

  • FLS stations set up for practice and testing purposes (3)

Skills Classroom 358:

  • Accommodates approximately 30 learners
  • Tables and chairs can be moved to accommodate program specifications
  • Room configuration is easily changed to host multiple task trainers
  • Overhead projector with drop down screen
  • Head wall with simulated oxygen, medical air and suction (2)
  • Surgical scrub sink for hand washing
  • Dry erase board (2), 46" x 94"
  • Telephone

Conference/Debriefing Room 369:

  • Large oval table seats 12, extra chairs around perimeter of room will increase class size to 25

Features for Teaching and Assessment

  • The Center has an additional inner corridor adjacent to the 10 examination rooms and 2 procedure rooms. Each of the rooms has access to this corridor by a separate door. The inner corridor allows separate, unviewed movement of faculty, SPs, and staff, and viewing of events in the rooms by means of one-way windows. Windows are equipped with adjustable Venetian blinds on the inside that allow undetected viewing or privacy as needed.
  • Each examination and procedure room has a microphone and 3 headphone jacks for audio monitoring of the rooms
  • All rooms are equipped with one pan/tilt/zoom video camera with digital recording capabilities
  • Central control station for operation of audiovisual equipment
  • Data collection is done via hand-held PDAs and then uploaded to a laptop

Additional Rooms

The Institute includes office space for faculty and staff, a reception area and two rest rooms for participant use.
