Critical Care Skills

Second year residents are instructed in techniques used in the surgical intensive care unit including oral intubation, arterial and central venous line and cardiac output catheter placement. Bowel Anastomosis

Vascular Anastomosis

Using PFTE graft material and inanimate aorta, residents practice techniques used in blood vessel repair. Vascular Anastomosis (PDF, 20KB)

Communication Skills

Communication skills In cooperation with a local organ procurement organization, surgical residents engage in a simulation about delivering bad news to family members of trauma victims.

Intermediate Laparoscopy

Using inanimate models in video box trainers, residents demonstrate the ability to perform the crucial steps in procedures such as laparoscopic cholecystectomy, ventral hernia repair and Nissen fundoplication.
