TUHS Residency Program: Otolaryngology

Overview

 

Residents participate in a bronchoscopy program, “Indications for and Outcomes of Direct Bronchoscopy in Adult and Pediatric Patients”. The session includes a didactic component, demonstration and hands on practice of direct bronchoscopy and foreign body removal, as well as a patient simulation scenario.

 


Demonstration and skills include:

  • Laryngoscopy
  • Rigid bronchoscopy
  • Foreign body removal

Patient simulation scenarios include:

  • Diagnosis:
    - Recognition of critical airway problem
    - Recognition of foreign body in the airway
  • Recognition of retropharyngeal abcess
  • Secure airway
  • Bronchoscopic removal of foreign body
