TUHS Residency Program: Obstetrics and Gynecology

Overview
The OB/Gyn residents participate in skills labs on a quarterly basis. These sessions provide instruction and practice sessions in episiotomy repair, pelvic slings, ablation and IUD, diaphragm sizing, and laparoscopy and laparotomy skills and procedures.
Demonstrations and skills cover the following topics in two-year cycles:
- Laparoscopy
• Trocar placement, creation of pneumoperitoneum
• Adnexal surgery: Ectopic pregnancy and ooporectomy
• LAVH and total laparoscopic hysterectomy
• Hysteroscopy, endometrial ablation
• Cystoscopy and ureter stents
• Colposcopy
- Laparotomy
- Abdominal incisions
- Surgical instruments, suture material and knot trying
- TAH and TVH
- Apical prolapse: sacrocolpopexy, sacrospinous fixation and uterosacral suspension
- Anterior and posteriorcolporrhaphy, paravaginal repair, perineorrhaphy
- Retropubic urethropexy and midurethral sling
- Control of pelvic hemorrhage
- Cystotomy and enterotomy repair
