TUHS Residency Program: Internal Medicine

Internal Medicine residency training

Overview

The first of several new educational initiatives for the Internal Medicine Residency program includes the use of the William Maul Measey Institute for Clinical Simulation and Patient Safety (ICS). The program consists of several components including procedural skills training, medical emergency scenarios, ultrasound guided central venous line placement (CVL), and an Observed Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE). The program was designed to ensure the proficiency of the house staff and promote quality patient care. During orientation, all incoming PGY-1 residents participate in the program. The procedural skills modules were developed to highlight both the cognitive and performance aspects of the procedures.

Demonstration and skills include:

  • Venipuncture
  • Arterial puncture
  • Intravenous catheter placement
  • Ultrasound guided CVL
  • Medical emergency scenarios
