Graduate nurse performs cardiac auscultation

Overview

 

Nursing graduate students participate in programs at the William Maul Measey Institute for Clinical Simulation and Patient Safety (ICS) using the Simulation Center and the Clinical Skills Center. This has been especially useful in physical assessment and specialty courses.


Integrated simulation experiences have been offered as part of multiple courses using SimMan®, SimBaby™, Harvey®, and SAM™.

 


Nurse Practitioner Program Sessions:

 

Components of these sessions include:

  • Harvey® the Heart program
  • Advanced health assessment scenarios: cardiovascular component with SimBaby™, respiratory component with SimMan®
  • EKG interpretation workshop
  • Interdisciplinary workshops with surgical residents for knot-tying and suturing
  • Office emergencies
  • Common office procedures
  • Orthopedic procedures: splinting, joint injections
  • Simulated office practice visits using standardized patients in the Clinical Skills Center
  • Individualized independent studies using Harvey®
