The Iris and Gene Rotberg
Undergraduate Research Humanities Awards

A Faculty/Undergraduate Research Initiative

Deadline: Nov. 16, 2009

The Rotberg Awards enable humanities undergraduates to spend a semester assisting a faculty member in completing a major research project. Faculty receive a small research fund and students develop advanced research skills by working closely with an experienced faculty mentor.

Faculty apply for the award, which provides up to $2,000 as a stipend to the undergraduate assistant and $500 to the faculty member for research expenses. This program is made possible by the generosity of Iris and Gene Rotberg.

The deadline for applications for Spring 2010 Fellowhips is Nov. 16, 2009.

Application

Applications should be about 4 pages, written in standard research proposal format. They should include:

  • Introductory overview of the proposal
  • Detailed description of the research the student will be asked to perform
  • Explanation of the potential value of the research to the student's education
  • Significance of the research project. If this is part of a larger project, please include an explanation
  • Any additional information you think pertinent to the proposal.

Faculty applicants need not identify the research assistant in the proposal. We encourage successful applicants to announce their project in an open competition for the most promising student researcher among undergraduates in their department.

Electronic applications are preferred and should be sent to chat@temple.edu. Please direct inquiries to Prof. Logan at peter.logan@temple.edu, 215 204-8567.
