The Graduate Associates Program
The Graduate Associates Program at The Center for the Humanities at Temple (CHAT) provides a forum for graduate students to pursue their research or creative activity in an interdisciplinary context. Graduate Associates share individual research and otherwise participate in bi-monthly workshops and receive a $500 research award that may be used for their research or creative activity materials, travel to professional conferences, etc. In addition, the Center provides the Graduate Associates with a programming budget for seminars, workshops, mini-conferences, or speakers.

Although CHAT’s expectation is that the majority of Graduate Associates will be enrolled in Ph.D. programs, it encourages M.A. students in certain programs (Creative Writing, for example) to apply. Regardless of the degree sought, Graduate Associates must be in at least the second year of his or her program of study during their tenure. In addition, students in their final year of graduate study are not eligible. Questions regarding eligibility or any other aspect of the Graduate Associate program should be addressed to Augusto Lorenzino, CHAT’s Associate Director, at galorenz@temple.edu.

The deadline for applying to Graduate Associate Program for 2008-09 is March 17 , 2008.

Application materials should be submitted by email to Peter Logan, Acting Director of CHAT, at peter.logan@temple.edu. Materials include a letter of application which addresses the expected benefits of the associateship, an abstract of proposed research or creative activity for the year of the associateship, and a current C.V. Also, the applicant should arrange for a faculty member familiar with his/her research interests to email a confidential letter of reference to the Director at the same address. Hard copies of both the applicant’s materials and the letter of reference should concurrently be submitted to the Center for the Humanities at Temple, 10th Floor, Gladfelter Hall 1115 West Berks Street, Philadelphia, PA 19122-6090.
