The Graduate School Senior Doctoral Fellowship provides support to advanced doctoral students pursuing research in the humanities or humanistic social sciences in any School or College at Temple. Fellows receive funding that enables them to work full-time on the dissertation. This includes a stipend, tuition, benefits, and $500 in research funding for one semester. Fellows receive office space at the Center and participate in the bi-weekly CHAT Fellows Seminar, where they present part of their manuscript for discussion and critique.
Eligibility
Applicants must be Temple doctoral students in good standing who have completed all requirements for the degree, except the required dissertation, and are advanced to candidacy. Past and current Graduate Fellows are ineligible to receive a second fellowship.
Application
Each candidate submits:
- A short cover letter identifying the fellowship you are applying for
- a statement of proposed research (4-6 pages double-spaced) and a description of the current state of the dissertation
- a current C.V.
- a confidential letter of reference by a faculty member familiar with the candidate's research, preferably the dissertation director, sent directly to Peter Logan, Director of CHAT, 10th floor of Gladfelter Hall
Fellowship Application Coordination
Eligible candidates may apply simultaneously for the Graduate School Senior Doctoral Fellowship and the Graduate Teaching Fellowship. Applicants who wish to be considered for both fellowships should indicate this prominently in the cover letter.

Graduate Teaching Fellowship, 2010-2011

CHAT provides Graduate Teaching Fellows with research support and offers them the opportunity to teach innovative interdisciplinary humanities courses. This includes a stipend, tuition, benefits, and $1000 in research funding. Fellows receive office space at the Center and participate in the bi-weekly CHAT Fellows Seminar, where they present part of their manuscript for discussion and critique. Fellows teach a course of wide humanistic concern related to their research or creative interests. The fellowship is contingent on the pledge of one or more departments or programs to offer the course.
Eligibility
This fellowship is available to Temple graduate students in good standing who have completed all course work for the degree and who have support from the department(s) or program(s) offering the course. Applicants must work together with the department or program chair or curriculum representative in proposing a course for consideration. Past and current Graduate Fellows are ineligible to receive a second fellowship..
Application
Each candidate submits:
- A short cover letter identifying the fellowship you are applying for
- a statement of proposed research or creative activity (4-6 pages double-spaced) and a description of the current state of that work
- a description of the proposed course including major texts or materials. Please include a projected schedule for the semester. A complete syllabus is unnecessary.
- a current C.V.
- a confidential letter of reference by a faculty member familiar with the candidate's work sent directly to Peter Logan, Director of CHAT, 10th floor of Gladfelter Hall
